Lot Essay

A note on one of these documents (waqfiya) details its subject. It relates to the apportionment of the Damascene properties of the Ottoman vizier Sulayman Pasha, in accordance with the detailed genealogical tree of his relevant descendents for inheritance purposes. The document was prepared by the Chief legal officer of Damascus, Muhammad Farisi Kaylani. It was originally redacted in AH 1229, with later added notes dated AH 1248 and AH 1309
