Lot Essay

An owner's note on the fly-leaf indicates that "The hand of [the present] Baharistan closely resembles that of Jami in the St Petersburg autograph. The diwan seems to be in a different, but contemporary, hand. The arrangement of the poems corresponds exactly with that of the Petersburg ms. as given by [Baron Victor] Rosen, except for the ommission here of the couple beginning Gaft dana'y immediately before the final quatrain".
