Carved with two tiers of deeply-drilled outsplayed acanthus leaves, with figures emerging above; two opposing sides with Jupiter, nude but for his mantle billowing around his shoulders, Minerva to his right, wearing a crested helmet and holding a shield, Mercury to his left, holding his caduceus; and two opposing sides with Thetis riding a Triton, the mother of Achilles wearing a tunic with a mantle pulled up over her head as a veil, the Triton holding up his conch shell, his writhing body terminating in a fishtail
