Lot Essay

These charming vases, with pale blue porcelain decorated with delicate flowers and birds, are en suite with a vase in the collection of the Earls of Harewood, Harewood House, and may conceivably have originally formed a garniture of three vases. The Harewood vase was almost certainly originally acquired by the Hon. Edward 'Beau' Lascelles (1764-1814), who in the early years of the 19th Century assembled one of the most significant collections of ormolu-mounted Chinese porcelains of the time, often purchased through the 'China-man' Robert Fogg, the celebrated dealer who also supplied prodigious amounts of porcelain to the Prince of Wales. For further information see the comparable lot sold Christie's, London, 5 July 2013, lot 6 (£16,500).
