With circular enamel and ormolu dial surmounted by a marble urn with ormolu fruit and floral swags flanked by recumbant lions, above double fluted Corinthian column supports over marble base set with trailing foliate ormolu friezes

Lot Essay

A mantle clock of somewhat similar design, with the clockworks signed Caillouet Hèger á Paris, was sold at Christie's, New York, November 14, 1985, lot 60. Jean Caillouet, born 1733, was recorded as working in the rue Gervais Laurent in 1765.
