Lot Essay

The present lot is one of four examples commissioned by the celebrated architect Patrick Gwynne, originally for use in his Esher residence, Homewood. This example was reputedly sold to the subsequent owner by Gwynne in 1968, for the not inconsiderable sum of £450. Another example remains in Homewood, now a National Trust property.
