Lot Essay

The imagery of a qilin spitting out a jade book symbolises the wish for the birth of an illustrious son. Jade carvings depicting this image are often given as gifts to celebrate the arrival of a newborn baby, conveying the wish for him to grow up to become a distinguished scholar.
