The catalogues contain numerous illustrations of Zhang Daqian's study of the Dunhuang cave drawings, some with corresponding cave numbers; together with:
Two anonymous studies of the Dunhuang caves, both numbered at the back of the page.
The larger catalogue, 7 3/8 x 12¾ in. (18.7 x 32 cm.)
The first drawing, 11½ x 15 in. (29.5 x 38 cm.)
The second drawing, 11 x 16 in. (28 x 40.5 cm.)

Lot Essay

Both drawings have a series of numbers and short description to the reverse, possibly representing the cave numbers. The first one is marked C309, Yuan dynasty, mi zong man tu luo which is a literal translation from Mandala. The second one is marked C224, ku ding tu an, which may be translated as 'design from the cave's ceiling'.
