Lot Essay

Yu Suoya, also known as Soa was a famous cartoonist and painter. During the war of resistance against Japan, he participated in the national salvation comics industry association in Shanghai, as head of research. He has edited Hong Kong's Sing Tao Daily, Pearl River, Evening News. In 1949 he was appointed to teach in the Performing Arts Department of The Central Academy of Drama. He was Artistic Director of the China Puppet Theatre, in the China Federation of literary and art circles, the Chinese Artists Association and Chinese Dramatist Association.

Huang Xinbo was a pioneer of the modern Chinese woodcut, heavily influenced by Lu Xun, and devoted himself to the development and promotion of this important art form. His work was showcased at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum from November 2011 to February 2012.
