Lot Essay

It is very rare to find a Jiajing mark and period jar of this impressive size and quality, with well-preserved enamels. An almost identical Jiajing mark and period 'dragon' jar is in the collection of the Palace Museum in Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Porcelains in Polychrome and Contrasting Colours, 1999, Hong Kong, p. 7, no. 6.
