A MASSIVE GILT-LACQUERED ZITAN DISPLAY CABINET, DUOBAOGE
JIAQING PERIOD (1796-1820)
Shaped as a lantern, the cabinet has two monster masks to the neck, with glass panels to the sides and multiple open shelves. The interior is delicately painted in gilt to depict idyllic riverside landscape scenes with pavilions, and the exterior of the neck and foot is decorated with lotus petals and geometric designs. The back is finely painted and gilt with five ferocious five-clawed dragons chasing flaming pearls amongst clouds.
