A Japanese Lacquer Bunko [Document Box]
Edo Period (late 18th-early 19th century)
Decorated in gold, silver and black hiramaki-e [low-relief lacquer] and nashiji [sprinkled gold powder] with the zig-zag pattern and bellflowers among rocks, bellflower mon [crest], the interior of the cover decorated in iroe-hiramaki-e [coloured low-relief lacquer] and takamaki-e [high-relief lacquer] with a cockerel and hen under peonies beside rocks
