With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with facetted hour markers in 1957 and its subsequent sale on 28 October 1959.

The present watch is believed to be one of only two examples of a second series reference 570 in stainless steel and with subsidiary seconds to have been offered at auction. Both these watches bear consecutive case numbers, the same dial and, moreover, carry the retailer's signature of Hausmann & Co., Patek Philippe's prestigious retailer in Rome.

Patek Philippe's large Calatrava model reference 570 was introduced to the market in 1938 and was available with subsidiary or sweep centre seconds. The cases were made in all materials from stainless steel, yellow, pink and white gold to platinum. The first series was fitted with cal. 12'''120, the second as of 1950 with cal. 12'''400 and the third, launched in 1960, with cal. 27 AM 400.

Hausmann & Co. was founded in Rome in 1794 by Ernst Hausmann, a young German clockmaker and his friend and partner Hermann Frielingsdorf. The firm still resides in the same premises in Rome's historical centre and represents the world's most prestigious watch and clock manufacturers.
