With Rolex Attestation de Chronomètre Officiel with punched serial number, square green tag with gilt writing saying "Rolex, Submariner, Triplock, 3 dots on winding crown, New" as well as Rolex fitted green presentation box and outer packaging.

Rolex collectors divide reference 1680 with date and red Submariner into six different series, distinguished by differences in dial layout. These series are called "Mark" and are sometimes abbreviated to MK. The present watch is a Mark IV, which is characterized by a depth rating expressed as 660ft=200m, the inverse of what is found on previous series. Mark IV is further distinguished from other series by featuring an "open" six in the depth in the feet and a different, i.e. non-parallel, alignment of the horizontal strokes of the abbreviation "ft".

Introduced in 1966/67, reference 1680 was the company's first Submariner with date, also featuring a "Trip Lock" crown as well as crown guards. The bezel has minute divisions for the first fifteen minutes and shows a silver triangle at the 60 unit.

The watch on offer is a fine example of reference 1680 and even has its rare original tag with it, announcing the introduction of the Triplock crown as "3 dots on winding crown".

Ref. 1680 is prominently described and illustrated in Rolex Submariner Story by Franka & Guido Mondani and Lele Ravagnani, pp. 90-103.
