MARK OF FRIEDRICH WILHELM WILKENS, BREMEN, CIRCA 1897
The body with jardiniere compartments at either end, each with detachable metal liners, fluted sides below pierced leaf and ribbon bands, the shaped sides chased with panels of trophies and with pillars capped by urns, on scroll feet, the central pedestal flanked by seated Classical female figures holding shields engraved with the town arms of Bremen and Hamburg and surmounted by a detachable two-handled cup, chased with stiff laurel leaves and berries, leaf and ribbon-chased rim, gilt interior, inscribed Presented to the Institution of Naval Architects by their friends in Hamburg and Bremen in grateful remembrance of the International Congress held at London, in the year of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, 5th to 14th July, 1897, London, Portsmouth, Windsor, Glasgow, Newcastle and then inscribed along the bottom rim with English and German names in alphabetical order, contained in a break-front fitted wooden cabinet lined in blue baize
