Lot Essay

King Louis XV of France (1710-1774) succeeded his great-grandfather King Louis XIV at the age of five and ruled until his death. In 1725, he married Marie Leszczinska (1703-1768), with whom he had ten children. He was succeeded by his grandson, King Louis XVI. After the fall of Napoleon I, two of King Louis XV's other grandsons, King Louis XVIII and King Charles X, went on to occupy the French throne.
