EXCEEDINGLY RARE. In a detailed description of the fan trade, the author describes how the art of fan-making had been brought from France by Protestant refugees seventy years earlier. He lists 'the several branches of this once valuable business' under 'materials', 'workmen' and 'artificers', estimating it to 'have afforded a comfortable subsistence for upwards of 2000 people', then describes how the trade has been reduced 'by printing of Fan Mounts' over the past 18 years. The threatened loss of trade will force 'the Ladies of Great Britain ... to pay a great Price for tawdry ill-tasted Fans from France, to the Diminution of the Ingenuity, Industry, and Wealth of our own Nation.' NEITHER THIS NOR ANY OTHER PAMPHLET ON THE FAN TRADE LISTED IN ESTC.
