FIRST AND ONLY EDITION of this rare play, founded on Goldsmith's ballad 'Edwin and Angeline'; very probably the AUTHOR'S COPY with a substantial number of deletions and additions to speeches as well as changes to stage directions. Gardyne's note suggests that the Bishop of Salisbury may also have had a hand in the writing of the play. ONLY ONE HOLDING IN ESTC (Huntingdon). Lowndes 662: 'a few copies privately printed'.
