AN INTER-RELATED COLLECTION OF FOUR POEMS, full of sexual innuendo. However, the Torpedo includes a more innocent and indeed famous reference to the Duke of Dorset's passion for cricket in the stanza beginning: 'The vulgar pleasures of the field/ Alone from love the heart can shield' (p. 14), and a footnote which reads: 'Every one knows the attachment of the Duke of D--rs--t to cricket: The following anecdote will prove it. Two clergymen were candidates for a living in his Grace's presentation, which he bestowed on the best Batsman.' Padwick 892-1.
