HORACE WALPOLE'S COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION. 'Walpole left Strawberry Hill to his cousin, Anne Seymour Damer, for her life use and, ultimately, to the descendants of his favourite niece, Maria Walpole, Countess Waldegrave. 1n 1842 the 7th Earl of Waldegrave ordered the sale that was to scatter his great-great-uncle's books and other collections about the world' (W.S.
