A GROUP OF LEAVES FROM LITURGICAL MANUSCRIPTS, in Latin, DECORATED OR ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPTS ON VELLUM [15th-17th centuries]. 18 single leaves taken from manuscripts including choirbooks, Psalters and Missals, ranging in size from 128 x 89mm to 511 x 367mm, with between 6 and 45 lines of text in a variety of gothic hands in black ink with red rubrication, 9 leaves with musical notation on four or five line staves.
Including a single leaf, 339 x 246mm, from a noted ferial psalter, with an initial 'C' beginning text for the feast of Corpus Christi ('Cibavit eos ex adipe frumenti'), 7 lines of text in a formal gothic hand in black ink with music of square notation, the initial 'C' intricately decorated in blue and red with geometric foliate infilling and flourishing in red penwork, two other flourished initials; two leaves from a Dutch Book of Hours, 147 x 105mm, 14 lines written in a closely-spaced gothic hand in black ink, text initials in burnished gold with alternating purple and red flourishing, with card mounts; also, 15 other single leaves from assorted liturgical manuscripts.
