RODRIGUEZ DE ALMELA, Diego (1426-ca. 1489). Valerio. De las Historias escolasticas de la sagrada escriptura, y de los hechos de España, con las batallas campales. Medina del Capo: Francisco del Canto, 1574. 8° (134 x 90mm). Device on title, woodcut initials. (Without final blank, a few leaves cropped at top margin, some light soiling.) Blue morocco by Balmes, 1956, gilt supralibros, gilt spine-lettering, turn-ins and edges. A combination of two works, the Valerio, an imitation of Valerius Maximus in nine books of moral epigraphs with scriptural and historical examples, and a treatise on war, both first printed in Murcia, 1487. (Small repairs to bottom margin, occasionally touching a few letters.) Red morocco gilt by Brugalla, 1952, supralibros, gilt edges. Second edition of an interesting historical work, usually bound with the Historia del fortissimo y prudentissimo capitan of Pedro Valles. Valles' work was first printed in 1558 in Antwerp without the Fuentes, but from 1562 the two works were issued together. Peeters-Fontainas 1337; Salvá 3526; Palau 95398.
