Lot Essay

On 13t<\sup>h<\sup> June 1796 off Cape Clear Island, the 36-gun frigate H.M.S Dryad, commanded by Captain Lord Amelius Beauclerk, sighted the French frigate Prosperine. After a close duel of 45 minutes, the French frigate fled and after a brief chase was captured. She was taken into the Royal Navy and renamed Amelie.
