Lot Essay

This highly popular model was produced in various finishes by Linke's workshop from 1885 to 1930, the present variant in bois de bout marquetry ceasing manufacture in 1913. Pedestals executed in a combination of floral and 'mosaic', or cube parquetry, finishes were available until 1930 when the last recorded pair was supplied to the King of Egypt. Examples of this model sold A Private Collection, Sotheby's, New York, lot 102 (a pair, $132,000) and lot 143 (a single example, $36,000).
