First produced in 1850 under the direction of Franz Liszt, Lohengrin was an immediate success and one of Richard Wagner's most famous operas. These scenes here, taken from German mediaeval folklore, likely depict Lohengrin's Ankunft (arrival), and Lohengrin's Abshied (farewell).
