CAST BY FERDINAND BARBEDIENNE AFTER THE MODELS BY ALEXANDRE FALGUIERE AND PAUL DUBOIS, LATE 19TH CENTURY

These torchères are reductions of the pair exhibited by Barbedienne at the 1867 Exposition Universelle and subsequently installed at the Château de Compiègne as part of the refurbishments undertaken by Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie. A similar pair to the present lot sold Christie's, London, 19 March 2009, lot 25 (£18,750).
