(lower edge); the second signed in Cyrillic and dated 'Sergei 1918 Chekhonin' (lower edge); the third signed in Cyrillic and dated 'Sergei Chekhonin 1922' (lower edge); further inscribed '#98 Bookcover for Children's Theatre/By Sergei Chekhonin' (on a label on the reverse); with inscription from Alexandre Djanchieff '13/Pour le dessin du centre voir le N. 241 dans/le catalogue de la collection Lobanov-Rostovsky' (on the reverse of the mount)

Acquired directly from Pierre Ino (1909-1989), stepson of the artist, by Alexandre Djanchieff in Paris in the early 1980s.
