It appears that the present figure of a Native Kamchatka man (Kamchadal) takes as its source an amalgamation of two plates engraved by I.G. Georgi in his Description of all Nationalities Living in Russia 1776-1777. The dress finds its source in the engraving entitled 'Kamchadal in a Winter dress', whilst the stick and his kill are copied from the engraving entitled 'Koriak'.
For a similar model of a native Kamchatka man, see N.B. von Wolf (ed. V.V. Znamenov), Imperatorskii farforovyi zavod, 1744-1904, St Petersburg, 2008, pp. 134 (pic. 19) and 135 and I.G. Georgi, Description of all Nationalities Living in Russia 1776-1777, (re-print from the first edition of 1799), St Petersburg, 2007, vol. 3, nos. 64 and 69.
For a similar unpainted model also see, Galerie Popoff: an Enduring Passion for Russian Art; Christie's, London, 12-13 October 2009, lot 155.
