Lot Essay

Les Jeux d'Enfants and the theme of childhood were inspired by two earlier series designed by Charles Le Brun depicting Les Saisons and later Les Enfants Jardiniers. The latter was woven at the Manufacture Royale des Gobelins between 1685 and 1720; both series were also produced in the workshops at Beauvais and Lille. Les Jeux d'Enfants designs are attributed to Michel Corneille (1602-1664).
