Of circular form, the foot with a knopped stem, painted with the infant Achilles in the arms of his mother, Thetis, as she prepares to pass him to the Centaur Chiron to begin his eductation, with buildings in the background in a wooded landscape, the yellow and ochre-washed rim with a manganese border of scrolling foliage and concentric blue lines
