Lot Essay

We are grateful to Dr. Francesco Petrucci, curator of Palazzo Chigi, Comune di Ariccia, for confirming the attribution on the basis of photographs.

The present lot is another version of the portrait of Ortensia Mancini that formed part of the famous 'galleria delle belle' in Palazzo Chigi, where the sitter is shown in a painted oval (see F. Petrucci, Ferdinand Voet 1639-1689, detto Ferdinando de' Ritratti, Rome, 2005, 165.a, p. 219).
