The Martyrdom of Saint Stephen

The present lot derives from the painting executed by Palma il Giovane for Santo Stefano in Cividale del Friuli near Udine, though it was subsequently moved to the town's cathedral. A print after the work by Aegidius Sadeler II was published by Marco Sadeler, and the current picture would appear to be by a Northern, probably Flemish, hand.
