AN EGYPTIAN GREEN STONE HEART SCARAB FOR NES-PTAH
LATE PERIOD, 26TH-30TH DYNASTY, 664-343 B.C.
The head, wingcase and legs well defined, the underside finely inscribed with twelve rows of hieroglyphs, with the Heart formula from Chapter XXXB of the Book of the Dead, a prayer appealing to the heart not to bear witness against the deceased, reading: "[Nes-Ptah son of...(?)-] Mose, he says: My heart of my mother, my heart of my mother, my heart of my forms/transformations, stand not against me as a witness, be not opposed to me in the Tribunal, make not your opposition/enmity against me in the presence of the Keeper of the Balance! You are my Ka who is in my body, Khnum who makes sound my , May you go forth to the place (or ), which , Cause not my name to stink the Entourage, makers of people, Servant of Bastet, Scribe of the Treasury of Bastet, Nes-Ptah, son of one with the same titles Aa-hetep-ek(?), J[ustified]"
