The tripod base formed of three lion paws, incised palmettes at the juncture of the legs, a rosette flange at the join to the fluted shaft, a tongued flange at the upper end, surmounted by a spool from which project four branches, each terminating in a lotus blossom, the finial in the form of a nude athlete on a socle with beading on its upper edge, standing in contrapposto with his weight on his left leg, his arms held out at his sides, holding an object in each hand, perhaps jumping weights, with short cap-like hair, his musculature well defined
