With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with silvered dial and raised hour markers in 1947 and its subsequent sale on 27 February 1948. Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe fitted presentation box and outer packaging.
This reference 533 offered here for auction at Christie's is an extremely appealing example of this legendary model, standing out by the rare and much sought after combination of a pink gold case and pink dial. It is furthermore preserved in overall very good condition, underlined by the appealing case proportions, crisp hallmarks and the rare pulsations dial.
It is one of the rare pieces fitted with a "medical" dial highlighted by a scale graduated for 15 pulsations. This dial version was popular amongst doctors and was often the subject of a special order upon the acquisition of the watch.
The exclusivity of this watch is also confirmed by the extremely small number of pink gold references 533 with pulsation scale to have appeared in over thirty years of auctions: previous to this chronograph, only 3 other examples have been accounted for.
The present watch impresses with its well preserved case, its appealing satin finish, the highly attractive "pink pulsations" dial, and represents a rare opportunity for the demanding collector of exclusive Patek Philippe chronographs.
Reference 533 was introduced into the market in 1937 and is distinguished by the elegant look of its Calatrava case with the typical flat bezel. The model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 264
