A GREEK GOLD AND GARNET PENDANT
LATE HELLENISTIC PERIOD, CIRCA 1ST CENTURY B.C.
Formed of sheet, bordered by stout wires voluted in the corners, and fringed with granulation, a cluster of granules for the akroteria, topped with a lunate flat garnet in a plain bezel, the pediment with three drop-shaped garnets set in plain bezels in the corners, one flat, one peaked, one cabochon, centered by a peaked garnet in a plain bezel encircled by granulation, granulation in between the inlays, the square lower element with four similar drop-shaped garnets in the corners, four inlays in between and the central inlay now all missing, granulation surrounding each plain bezel, clusters of granules in between, backed with two ribbed suspension tubes
