Lot Essay

The hall mark Jing wei tang zhi may be translated, 'Made for the hall of respectful awe'. It represents an Imperial Palace location mark used during the Yongzheng and Qianlong periods. See G. Davison, The Handbook of Marks on Chinese Ceramics, 1994, no. 659, pp. 72 and 173.
A fine pair of blue-glazed cups and saucers made for the same hall was sold at Christie's New York, 18 September 2003, lot 355.
