Lot Essay

Lockett Agnew was a grandson of Thomas and was a partner in the firm from 1881 until his death in 1918. He worked closely with his first cousin Morland in a happy combination, with the latter, a notable connoisseur, being responsible for buying the paintings, and Lockett becoming a formidable salesman. Both he and his glamorous wife were painted by Fildes.
