Lot Essay

In the decade before the Second World War Flint made numerous visits to France, Spain, Italy and Switzerland. The present watercolour shows weary farm workers returning from the day's labour with the Gorge of Pancorbo in North Eastern Spain in the background. Flint commented on the scene that it was, 'One of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen in a life blessed with many of them.' (Palmer, loc. cit.).
