Lot Essay

Warwick Goble worked very closely with the publishers Messrs. Macmillan including in 1910 producing 40 illustrations for The Green Willow and other Japanese Fairy Tales of which this work in particular depicts the story of the Jelly-Fishes' journey. The book's Japanese theme suited Goble, he was greatly influenced by Japanese art and this work is a fine example, showing his intricate use of line and subtle colour washes.
