AN OTTOMAN KILIJ
EARLY 19TH CENTURY
With curved single-edged watered fullered blade double-edged at the point, the back-edge with gold-inlaid running foliage, the outer side with The Throne Verse running along the length of the cutting edge and with a panel at the forte involving the religious invocation ‘Ya Qadi al-Hajjat’, the generic signature ‘Ya Assadullah’ and a crescent moon all inlaid in gold, the inner side with gold-inlaid maker’s mark (worn, some corrosion marking throughout), silvered hilt, dark horn grip-scales, and two elaborate silver scabbard-mounts cast and chased with foliage and flowers; together with AN OTTOMAN SHAMSHIR, EARLY 19TH CENTURY, with curved single-edged blade, iron guard, cast and chased silver pommel, and black leather-covered scabbard (some wear and corrosion marking to iron parts)
