The British Hydrographic service dates back to the 17th Century, when the Royal Navy was first asked to chart the British coast, they specialize in the science of surveying at sea. For such an important group of men, charged with the challenging task of creating charts that would become the global standard for all ships, Vacheron Constantin created this special pocket watch, as it was imperative that they have accurate high quality timekeepers. This piece in particular dates back to the 1940s, created in the middle of World War II, indicating the potential dangers the men faced while at sea.
