CASE: of typical architectural form, the castellated cupola top with four projecting models of canon above a further stepped arcaded platform with foliate scrolls to the border and flanked overall by wasted finials and enclosing the quarter and hour bells, the rectangular base ornamented with fruiting foliage amidst strapwork, the outset stop-fluted three-quarter columns with Corinthian capitals to the angles above the flared plinth raised on pomegranate feet, struck three times beneath the dial with the makers mark 'N+S' within a shield DIALS: the silvered chapter ring with alarm disc to centre and outer minute ring, the rear with quarters dial and strike recording dials MOVEMENT: the iron posted frame stamped twice 'NS', with gut fusees for the going, striking and quarter trains and barrel for the alarm, later verge and pendulum escapement (formerly for foliot or balance), striking the quarters and hours; with a later associated carved wood plinth and glazed cover
