An okubi-e [bust portrait] to celebrate the farewell performance in 1825 of the actor Nakamura Utaemon III (Shikan) in the role of Gotobei from the series Issei ichidai Atari kyogen [Hits of a Lifetime] a performance which was greeted with such great enthusiasm that he continued to give a series of extremely popular "final" performances until his death in 1838, signed Shunkosai Hokushu ga, the red seal of Chu which is stamped on the handle is that of the publisher Ariharado
