Lot Essay

Designed in the 'Antique' manner popularised by C. Percier and P. Fontaine's, Recueil de Decoration Interieures, 1801, these bacchic nymph herms relate to those on bronze-mounted furnishings in the Egyptian manner manufactured around 1800 by the ebeniste Martin Eloy Ligneraux of the Rue Vivienne.
