Lot Essay

This panel is after the Cupid and Psyche scenic wallpaper that was produced in the early 19th Century by Dufour et Cie in Paris. They were intended to behung around a room as a continuous mural decoration, or framed in separate groups as pictures such as the present lot, the 4 panels depicting Psyche au Bain (Psyche Bathing) are in the Victoria and Albert Museum collection in London.
