Borriello was born in Naples but moved to the USA where he resided in New York until his death in 1974. His best works are of beautiful young ladies, of which this is a fine example. His strengths lie in the fluid and confident manner he applies his brush strokes to the flesh tones of his subjects. Borriello also has a very good grasp of how the application of light and dark hues affect the overall composition. The finish is both rich and earthy as a result.
