Rectangular, engraved with a coat-of-arms, crest and motto above the name Francis Dana in script, with engraved signature N.H.ScP at lower right; together with a print from the plate, early 19th century

Lot Essay

Francis Dana (1743-1811) was a jurist and statesman. He served as a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1778 and again in 1784, as American Minister to Russia from 1780-83 and 1785 and as Chief Justice of Massachusetts from 1791-1806. In addition, Dana was a charter member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
