Decorated in grisaille and gilt with an oval containing the famous scene, grapevine at the rim, comprising:
A teapot and cover, 10 in. (25.3 cm.) long, overall
A coffee-pot and cover, 9½ in. (24.1 cm.) high
A sugar-bowl and cover, 5½ in. (13.8 cm.) high
A helmet-shaped cream-jug, 6½ in. (16.4 cm.) long
A waste bowl, 5½ in. (13.9 cm.) diameter
A serving plate, 10 in. (25.4 cm.) diameter
A side plate, 7¼ (18.3 cm.) diameter
A pudding dish, 6¼ (15.8 cm.) diameter

Lot Essay

Variations of commemorative Mount Vernon services were made following the 1799 death of President Washington, probably based on the 1803 Samuel Seymour engraving. This service descended in the family of Captain Daniel C. Bacon of Boston of Barnstable, Massachusetts, knowm for his command of the Atahuapla which ran a route to China
