Lot Essay

According to the vendor the camera was acquired in Tokyo in 1946 by Squadron-Leader George William Preston who was part of the first delegation of business men to visit Japan after the war. He was offered the Australasian agency for Canon, but lacked sufficient capital to take it on. He described the Canon works as a kind of shed assembly by young women, with a boy watering down the earth floor to keep down the dust.
